ENGLAND PAKISTAN MATCH CONTINUES

The England pakistan one-day match continued as per schedule despite the match fixing scandal. But the England players made clear their anger at the comments, with captain Andrew Strauss releasing a strongly-worded statement expressing their "outrage" and threatening legal action.

The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Ijaz Butt, this morning denied telling an Indian-based television station that he had evidence to support his claims, saying he was merely quoting "bookies".

PAKISTAN PLAYERS RELEASED

Pakistan stars have been released without charge it was revealed. British police released without charge three Pakistani cricket players embroiled in fixing claims after questioning them under caution today, their lawyer said.

"Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt of the Pakistan cricket team have today been questioned under caution by the Metropolitan Police," Elizabeth Robertson told reporters outside Kilburn police station in north London.

WISDEN'S ALMANAC REVIEWED

Meanwhile, the familiar yellow brick of the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack has climbed into second place, well on its way to its regular annual sale of some 40,000 copies. Not bad for a book that retails at £45 (even if it does make finding out information easier than playing scratch cards!)

One suspects that a good proportion of readers buy it with a collector’s impulse, adding the latest edition to a line of short, stocky primrose jackets.

England in Wisden's

Somewhat unsurprisingly, four of England's 2009 Ashes-winning team have been named among Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year.

Stuart Broad, Matt Prior, Graham Onions and Graeme Swann were lauded for their outstanding efforts in the past 12 months, guiding England to a 2-1 series win over Australia as well as a 1-1 away draw against South Africa.
