AUSTRALIAN WHITEWASH

Without a shadow of doubt, one of the most talented test teams in world cricket is the Australia Cricket team.

They proved this in massive style recently as they tore apart the Indian cricket team which was playing a tournament there. The Indians are the holders of the World Cup, so defeating them is no mean feat, but the Aussies looked like they were simply toying with them.

The first match, held at the MCG, began on Boxing Day with very high expectations of the Indian side, and of one person in particular. This person was Sachin Tendulkar, who was carrying the hopes and dreams of an entire nation on his shoulders as he looked to get his hundredth century in international cricket. This is a feat that has not been achieved before, and probably never will be.

Australia began proceedings and the Indian bowlers seemed to be in fine form as they restricted the home side to a respectable 333. The Indian batsmen came out to bat the following day and everyone hoped for the Little Master to reach his epic milestone. Sadly, that wasn’t to be, as Sachin was clean bowled by Peter Siddle for 73.

The batting order crumbled soon after and the tourists were restricted to 282. In their next innings, the Aussies looked shaky as they were all bowled out for 240. The visitors, however, had a far more terrible second innings, as they scored a paltry 169 runs before being bowled out. The home side won by a margin of 122 runs.

India’s performance continued to dwindle through the series as they lost the next test in Sydney by an innings and 68 runs. The third test of the four match series, held at Perth, ended on a similar note as the hosts won by an innings and 37 runs.

MELBOURNE STILL STRUGGLING

In spite of Shane Warne’s marvellous comeback in competitive cricket in Australia in the KFC Twenty 20 Big Bash with the Melbourne Stars, his team looks as if it could have done with some tips on how to succeed – the best team in the competition on paper lie at the bottom of the table!

The 42 year old Warne bowled superbly against the Perth Scorchers and it was largely due to his efforts with the ball that the Stars managed to bundle them out for 136, but even then the so-called glamour team of the competition somehow managed to lose by 8 runs!?

This was the third loss suffered by the Melbourne Stars in four games which has left them in dire need for a victory in order to keep their hopes alive in this competition. At the start of the Big Bash, the Stars were amongst the favourites to win the tournament, according to the cricket betting online.

But even with the charismatic Shane Warne rolling back the years and bowling at his absolute best, they could not avoid defeat against the Scorchers, in a match that was a must win encounter for both the sides.

Another thing that has been drawing the attention in the Stars games is that the Melbourne Cricket Ground has been going almost on empty for some time now and even with the return of their favorite son, the people of Melbourne are not bothering to turn up for the games of the misfiring Stars, leaving all the players and management disappointed.

But it seems that there is some light at the end of the tunnel as Shane Warne and his mates look to take the positives from the game against the Scorchers and utilize them to win the remainder of their matches to stand a chance of progressing to the semifinals of the tournament.
