Pakistan announce Squad

Pakistan has announced the squad for T20s against Australia and also for the world T20 championship, which is going to be held in September, this year. Some experienced players have made their comeback in the team. The opening batsman, Mohammad Hafeez, will be captaining the side.

Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has made a comeback in the team after almost a year. The last match that he had played for Pakistan was against India in the World Cup 2011 semifinal. Kamran has been performing well in the domestic circuit and had also performed brilliantly in the first edition of Bangladesh Premiere League (BPL). But due to some integrity issues, he was not eligible for selection. But, in the earlier part of this month, he has been given a clean chit by the Integrity committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which has made him eligible for selection. The chairman of the selection committee of PCB, Iqbal Qasim, said that Pakistan had tried many wicket keepers after Kamran but no one performed consistently. For, the World T20 championship, we need an experienced wicketkeeper who can also hit the ball out of the park. So, Kamran is an obvious choice.

Abdul Razzaq and Imran Nazir have also made their comeback in the team after a long time. Imran has been rewarded due to his brilliant performance in Bangladesh Premiere League. Iqbal Kasim said that Imran is an attacking batsman and is a brilliant fielder too. Razzaq is also a quality player and his seam bowling could be handy under Sri Lankan conditions. Razzaq can also be a handful in the lower middle order. Opener Nashir jamshed, who had to miss the Sri Lankan Tour due to a finger injury, has also been called back in the team. There is also a new face in the team i.e. Raza Hasan. He is a left arm orthodox spinner. According to Qasim, he has been performing well in the domestic circuit and has been rewarded due to that.

The squad is as follows-

Mohammad Hafeez (Capt.), Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed, Kamran akmal, Asad Shafiq, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Umar Akmal. Saeed Ajmal, Raza Hasan, Umar Gul, Mohammad Sami and Sohail Tanveer
