Former Indian captain and one of the greatest batsmen of all times, Rahul Dravid, has praised the young Indian middle order batsman Virat Kohli and said that he has been hugely impressed with the way Virat Kohli played in the second test match against New Zealand at Bengaluru.
Virat’s performance in the Bengaluru test match was absolutely phenomenal. He scored a century in the first innings and took India very close to the score of New Zealand. In the second innings, when India was struggling at 166 for 5 and the Kiwi bowlers were on top, Virat put up a match winning partnership of 96 runs with MS Dhoni and saw his team home. He was declared man of the match for his fantastic performance with the bat.
As per Dravid, Virat has matured a lot in the last 1 year. Earlier in his career, he used to throw his wicket away after getting his eye in. But, now, he understands the value of his wicket. He doesn’t play rash shots and tries to play in a conventional way. Dravid said that Virat has got a huge range of shots. He can play every shot in the book. He can also play in an unconventional way if needed.
On being asked about Virat’s weakness against the short pitched deliveries, Dravid said that Virat is not that much tentative against the short rising deliveries. It’s true that he hasn’t been able to play the short balls fluently so far in his career. But, he looks to be a natural puller of the ball. He has to learn how to roll the wrists while playing a pull shot against a fast bowler. Virat is a very quick learner and hopefully, he would get rid of this problem pretty soon.
