India defeated Pakistan in their first match in the World T20 Championship yesterday. They secured a pretty comprehensive victory against their arch rivals.
Bowling first, the men in blue made a terrific start as in the very second over they sent the opposition opening batsman Kamran Akmal back into the pavilion. It was the consequence of brilliant fielding by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his follow through. He fielded the ball about 5 yards away from the stumps and then with a direct hit, he knocked the stumps over.
India didn’t get any more wickets for a while, but, they didn’t let Pakistan get off the hook. They kept bowling dot balls and building pressure and that resulted in a couple of wickets in back-to-back overs after the power play.
Now from that stage, it became very difficult for Pakistan to get to a score of 150-160. They tried their best though and got themselves in a decent position for a late onslaught, but, India’s death bowling, for a change, was a lot better this time around. They didn’t give away too many runs in the last 3 overs. Pakistan’s eventual score remained 130.
In reply, India got a quick start despite both the openers not being in touch. Things seemed to be changing a little bit though when 3 wickets fell in the space of a few deliveries, but, then Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina put their heads down and made sure that there would be no more hiccups in the chase.
India hunted down the target with about one and half overs remaining.
The leg spinner Amit Mishra for his brilliant bowling spell of 4-0-20-2 was adjudicated player of the match and rightly so because his two wickets put brakes on the run scoring of Pakistan.
