The former South African player Ray Jennings has hailed Virat Kohli and has said that he has the qualities to become a great captain in future.

Virat is currently captaining the Indian side in the 5-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in the absence of the regular captain MS Dhoni.

Under Virat’s captaincy, the young Indian side is performing quite well. They have won the first couple of ODIs against Zimbabwe quite convincingly and are looking set for a whitewash.

When Jennings was asked about Virat’s captaincy, he said, “Virat is a positive guy who likes to set example for other players in the team. He possesses great leadership qualities. He is someone who is very innovative and has got a good cricketing brain. He is very enthusiastic.”

When asked about Virat losing temper at times, Jennings said, “Look, Virat is a naturally aggressive guy. People see only that side of him and that’s not fair. They should also see how calm he is at the crease.”

“A leader shouldn’t be too aggressive, but, he shouldn’t be too calm either. It should be a mixture of calmness and aggression.”

Virat was involved in an on field spat with the Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir in the last edition of Indian Premier League. When asked about that incident, Jennings said, “I talked to Virat after that incident and he told me that he didn’t do the right thing there. So, he is someone who realizes his mistakes and learns from it. That’s the sign of a real good leader.”

“Virat doesn’t have a normal Indian mentality. He is more like Australians. He loves challenges and remains positive all the time.”

Jennings is also the coach of Virat’s IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore.
